  This mini-album includes 5 songs arranged and performed by Ayuo. Tracks 1, 3, 4, 5 were recorded for Shogakukan's Complete Takemitsu Edition Volume 5 and are released with permission. These tracks are performed with EPO and Shuichi Chino.
  Track 2 is an unreleased Sitar-Guitar version of the "Waltz" from the film "Face of Another", one of Ayuo's favorite films.
  
  武満徹の映画音楽の才能はめったにないもの　by Ayuo

  武満徹は「音」の感覚は他の人間にめったにないほど優れていた。音の一つ一つを敏感に感じて、それがどのような効果があるかを理解していた。これは作曲家としての武満徹とは別の才能だった。多くの映画監督も、このような「音」の付け方は出来なかった。武満徹が音楽を担当している映画は、必ずしも一人で作曲しているわけではなかった。ロックのマジカル・パワー・マコ、電子音楽には秋山邦晴、ピアノ作品に一柳慧や高橋悠治等がクレジットされていたりする。篠田正浩監督の「心中天網島」ではバリ・ガムランやトルコの祭り笛と太鼓の音、トルコの祭り笛と太鼓の音をそれまで誰にも思いつかないような見事な音の付け方をしていた。ザ・クラッシュというパンク・バンドのジョー・ストラマーもアレックス・コックスに映画音楽を頼まれた時、監督と共に武満徹の音楽の付け方を研究してから自分の音楽を作り出した。
  
  特に勅使河原宏監督の映画は、武満徹の音楽が世界中で注目されていた。「他人の顔」は弦楽の曲がテーマで始まり、電子音楽もあれば、武満徹の歌曲としての名曲の一つ「ワルツ」が含まれている。この曲は、どのジャンルのものとは言えないほどの個性的な魅力を持っている。僕自身は、この曲に中東のリズムを与えた上でサイケデリック・フォークのようなアレンジで歌って来た。この一つの映画だけでも武満徹の音楽のいろいろな面が聴ける。
  
  近年、安部公房の小説「砂の女」や「他人の顔」がアイデンティティの問題を扱っているということでアメリカや英国で話題になっている。自分の本来の顔を事故で失くして、「他人の顔」で生きると言うのは性格さえも変わってしまうことである。主人公は黒人として生きることや差別されて生きていくことを考える。自分の今までの社会の立場を失って、遠く離れた砂の中で知らなかった女の人と過ごす「砂の女」の男。自分とは何か？自分の生きる環境が変わると自分はどう変わるのか？これは民族、人種、ジェンダーとは何か、という問題につながって行く。今まではアイデンティティがあいまいな人ほど過激なカルト教や政治集団に誘われやすかった。しかし、遺伝子を科学的に調べると「民族」とはウソであって、全ての人の中にいろいろな遺伝子が混ざっているために、それを育てた環境の方が重要になって来ると多くの科学者が書いている。
  
  Ayuoが小学館の武満徹全集のためにアレンジした勅使河原宏と恩地日出夫の映画の曲や歌の曲は許可を頂いてネットのayuo.bandcamp.comにアップされています。
  
  
  Toru Takemitsu had a sense of "sound" that is rarely found in other human beings. He was sensitive to every single sound and understood what effect it had. This was a different talent from Toru Takemitsu as a composer. Many film directors were not able to add "sound" to films in this way.
  Films with music by Toru Takemitsu were not necessarily composed by him alone. Magical Power Mako made some rock music, Kuniharu Akiyama helped with some electronic music, Toshi Ichiyanagi and Yuji Takahashi were sometimes credited for piano works. In Masahiro Shinoda's "Double Suicide" he used Balinese Gamelan music and Turkish festival flutes and drums in a brilliant way that no one had ever thought of before. When Joe Strummer of the punk band The Clash was asked by Alex Cox to write music for a film, he and the director studied Toru Takemitsu's way of setting music to film before creating their soundtrack.
  
  The music for the movie "Face of Another"by Hiroshi Teshigahara begins with the theme played by a string orchestra, there is also electronic music, and one of Toru Takemitsu's most famous songs, "Waltz". This song has such a unique charm that it is hard to say which genre it belongs to. I myself have sung this song in a psychedelic folk-like arrangement, giving it a Middle Eastern rhythm. In this one film alone, we can hear many aspects of Toru Takemitsu's music.
  
  In recent years, Kobo Abe's novels "Woman of the Dunes" and "Face of Another" were often discussed in the U.S. and European literary circles because they deal with the issue of identity. To lose one's face in an accident and live with "someone else's face" would change even one's personality. The main character thinks about living as a black person and being discriminated against. In "Woman of the Dunes", a man is trapped in the dunes with a strange woman. He can't go back to his work as a school teacher in the city and loses his position in society. This leads the reader to question: What is myself? How do I change when the environment I live in changes? In recent years, people have begun to question ethnicity, race, and gender. In recent times, people with ambiguous identities were more likely to be lured into radical cults and political groups. However, many scientists have shown through the scientific study of genes that "nationalism" is a lie because the environment in which we were raised is just as important in creating a cultural consciousness. The culture that one grows up in is what makes one American or Canadian. And in every nationality, there are so many different genes mixed in all of us so it is often difficult to identify one as belonging to a single nation just by DNA alone.
