日本語は英語の下期。Around the year 2000, I started using a laptop computer to record and compose new music. "Dance of the Sea-Goddesses", Wild Moon Goddess" and "Soul Into Soul" were recorded as demo-tapes during this time. I am playing Bouzouki, Cornemuse, Guitars, Tin Whistle, medieval Psaltery, Bass and singing on these tracks along with sampled percussion, drums, and loops. A combination of new rhythms and beats with medieval and rock music.
A music producer once gave my demo-tape of "Dance of the Sea-Goddesses" to Katsuhiro Otomo, the director of the Japanese animation, "Akira". He wanted to use this as the theme for his next animation. Then they began to argue over who would own the rights to this music. Both wanted 100% of the copyrights. This animation was going to be a major production, so they all wanted a piece of the action before anything was actually recorded. Because of this argument, "Dance of the Sea-Goddesses" was never used and I never signed a contract with either of the companies. These are the kind of things that often happens in music business.
Around this time, I also used the computer laptop to play at club events. "The Travels Of Odysseus" is a live recording from an outdoor rave party. Most of the audience seemed to be on psychedelic drugs.

I also played at lectures, dance events, and museums using my laptop computer. "Water and Light in Hiroshi Hara's Architecture" was made for a lecture by Hiroshi Hara's lecture on the use of light in his architecture. Hiroshi Hara is a very well known architect. He is responsible for Kyoto Station, Sapporo Dome, among many other buildings. I put 'water' in the title because this music includes sounds of water.

"Indian Voices" is created entirely of loops that I bought. I think that I still managed to make it sound like "A Stranger" and some of the other songs Ayuo was writing at the time.

"Psychedelic House of Music" was a demo recorded for a planned project, where speakers would be placed all over a house playing different loops from the floor, from the ceiling, from the closet. There are many abandoned houses and schools in the countrysides of Japan, and I presented this as an idea to a company who was holding art exhibitions at such locations. You can hear music created from combinations of loops in some other music composed by Ayuo such as "Earthquake" (on the Early Spring Ambient album).

"Ghost City, September 2001" is what I felt after I learned what happened to New York City on September 11, 2001.

"Zacro" is an instrumental I composed to play with my band, Zacro. It's kind of like the OM riff played by the band Gong, Zacro means pomegranate in Japanese. The mix is like My Bloody Valentine from the 1990s mixed with a club mix. Ayuo plays all the instruments: guitar, bass, bouzouki, etc.

アニメーションとエレクトロニカ
2000年頃から、ノート・パソコンを使って新しい音楽を録音・作曲するようになりました。"海の女神の踊り"、"野生の月の女神"、"魂から魂へ "("Dance of the Sea-Goddesses", Wild Moon Goddess" and "Soul Into Soul" )はこの時期にデモ・テープとして録音したものです。Ayuoはこれらの曲で、ブズーキ、コルネミューズ、ギター、ティン・ホイッスル、中世のプサルテリー、ベースを演奏し、サンプリングしたパーカッション、ドラム、ループとともに歌っています。新しいリズムとビートを中世音楽とロックに組み合わせたものです。

ある音楽プロデューサーが、Ayuoのデモテープ"Dance of the Sea-Goddesses"(「海の女神の踊り」)を、日本のアニメ「AKIRA」の監督である大友克洋に渡したことがある。彼はこれを、次のアニメのテーマに使いたいと言ってきた。そして、この音楽の権利をどちらが持つかで制作会社どうしの口論になった。どちらも100％の著作権を求めていた。このアニメは大がかりな作品になるため、録音される前にその権利を手に入れたかったのだ。その結果、"Dance of the Sea-Goddesses"は使われることはなく、私はどちらの会社とも契約書を交わすことはありませんでした。こういうことは、音楽業界ではよくあることなんです。

この頃、コンピュータのノート・パソコンを使って、クラブ・イベントでも演奏するようになりました。"The Travels Of Odysseus "は、野外のレイブ・パーティーでのライブ録音です。ループを流しながら、エレクトリック・ブズーキ、ギター、シンセ等を演奏しながら歌っています。シンセ・プログラマーのMatoもループとシンセで参加しています。観客のほとんどがサイケデリック・ドラッグをやっているようだった。

また、講演会、ダンスイベント、美術館などでもラップトップ・パソコンを使って演奏しました。"原広司の建築における水と光 "は、原広司の建築における光の使い方についての講演会のために作ったものです。原広司さんは、とても有名な建築家です。京都駅や札幌ドームなど、多くの建築物を手掛けています。タイトルに「水」とつけたのは、この音楽が水の音を含んでいるからです。

"Indian Voices "は、すべて私が買ってきたループで作っています。それでも "A Stranger "や、当時Ayuoが作っていた他の曲のようなサウンドに仕上げることができたと自分では思っています。

"サイケデリック・ハウス・オブ・ミュージック "は、家中にスピーカーを置いて、床から、天井から、押入れから、さまざまなループを鳴らすという企画のために録音したデモです。シンセ、ループ、ギター、ベース、笛、等の楽器をAyuoが一人で演奏しています。日本の田舎には廃屋や廃校がたくさんありますが、そういう場所でアート展を開催している会社にアイデアとして提案しました。スピーカーは元ゴーストのドラマーで録音エンジニの山崎巌が作る予定でした。Ayuoのループの組み合わせによる音楽は、「Earthquake」（アルバム『Early Spring Ambient』収録）など、Ayuoが作曲した他の音楽でも聴くことができます。

「Ghost City, September 2001」は、2001年9月11日にニューヨークで起こったことを知った後に感じたことです。

"Zacro "は、Ayuoのバンド、Zacroで演奏するために作曲したインストゥルメンタル曲です。バンド「ゴング」が演奏するOMリフのようなもので、Zacroは日本語でフルーツのザクロを意味します。ミックスは1990年代のMy Bloody Valentineをクラブ・ミックスと混ぜたようなものです。ギター、ベース、ブズーキ等の全ての楽器をAyuoが演奏しています。
