ララバイ by Ayuo (English translation below)
After putting her child to bed,
Mother puts on a record.
Her new boyfriend is in the next room.
They dance the waltz.
Their shadows flicker on the ceiling,
Where the child sleeps.
Lullaby.
What will tomorrow bring?
Sunny weather or rain.
Lullaby.
Dreaming while wrapped in anxiety.
Where is dad?
But he'll only say he's too busy.
Mom is too busy searching for 'happiness'.
In the world of dreams,
The child sees wild beasts dancing.
Lullaby.
What will tomorrow bring?
Sunny weather or rain.
Lullaby.
Dreaming while wrapped in anxiety.

A Child With No Home
At heart, I've always been a child with no home
I smile when I am sad
Chasing an unknown cloud
The wandering is the beginning of love
And then I began to think.
I shouldn't waste so much time just being depressed.
I'll go on a journey.
Forget my troubles.
That's it!
I'll go to an island in the South.
An island far from civilization.
Let's go down South.
Let's go on a ship.
Let's go down South.
To an unknown island.
Pack my suitcase,
With oblivion.
I can't live in this town anymore.
A small bar in the alley.
A cat named Sorrow
I used to sing "Heartbreak Blues" all the time
The worn-out last train.
I've had enough!
Goodbye, Big City!
I'm going away.
"Why?", you ask.
The answer is simple.
The sea is so blue!
At heart, I've always been a child with no home
I smile when I am sad
Chasing an unknown cloud
The wandering is the beginning of love.
------------------------
A year passed,
And I returned home.
With my squirrels and my memories.
And sometimes
I dream of Rima coming to me.
Who is it!
Who is it that knocks on my door?
Midnight.
When you open it,
There is no one there.
Just the wind blowing.
It's all in your head.
That love affair is all over.

In my heart, I've always been a child with no home
I smile when I am sad
Chasing an unknown cloud
The wandering is the beginning of love
I arrived on a small island,
Twenty miles from Costa Rica.
A green island in the tropics.
A friend of mine from college,
Went there for research and discovery, and had a lodge there.
So I went to stay with him.
In the vast wilderness of nature,
I began to forget everything.
Every day was joyful.
------------------
An Island In The South
You don't need a home
You don't need shoes
You don't need any money
You won't miss the last train
Say "Hello!" barefoot.
Goodbye Sadness
This is an island in the South!
Everyone is as free as a bird here!
Ocean!
Land!
Air!
Wind!
Cottage!
Clouds!
Brightness!
Green!
Jungle!
Love!
In my heart, I've always been a child with no home
I smile when I am sad
Chasing an unknown cloud
The wandering is the beginning of love

Ten days after I arrived,
A snake suddenly bit me in the forest
Surprised, I clutched down on my open wound
A girl passing by saw this
And she came to suck the poison from my wound
That was the first meeting
Between me and the wild girl of nature, Rima
------------
The Girl, Rima
Rima asks me:
- What is an airplane?
I answer:
- A mechanical big bird
Rima asks me:
- What is electricity?
I answer:
- Starlight attached to strings
Rima asks me:
- What is love?
I thought for a while:
- The horizon at sunset
Rima asks me:
- What are cigarettes?
I answer:
- The world's smallest volcano
Rima asks me:
- What are sunglasses?
I answer:
- A tool to turn day into night
Rima asks me:
- What is it to fall in love?
I thought for a while::
- The moon rising from the coconut tree
-----------------
What Rima enjoyed the most,
Was to have me chase her in the forest.
Rima would run between the trees like the wind.
I would always get lost
Rima was high as a bird.
Rima was fast as a bird.
Rima would sing like a bird.
Rima was as mean as a bird.
Rima was as gentle as a bird.
When I came down with a cold,
And got a fever.
Rima prayed for me.
Naked in the river.
When my fever went down,
We held each other tight and slept.
In my heart, I've always been a child with no home
I smile when I am sad
Chasing an unknown cloud
The wandering is the beginning of love
-------------------------------
Rima started to take an interest in my life in the city.
The fact that water only comes out of the faucet in an apartment.
The fact that fire comes out of a gas stove.
The mechanical bird named an airplane.
And I began to feel, that could once again return to the dirty city,
If it were with Rima.
And so, we got engaged.
------------
A Song In Celebration Of Marriage
You said you'd give me the sea
As a show of your love
But where can I put the sea you give me?
You said you'd give me the moon
As a show of your love
But where can I put the moon you give me?
I don't need the blue sea
I don't need the moonlight
All I need
Is you
-------------------

On the island,
There were a few mystical sites.
In the depths of the jungle, in the large cave where wild birds lived,
There is a fire that is believed to have been burning for centuries.
According to their tradition, when people die,
They are purified by this fire.
And then, they are reborn.
----------
One fine day,
A large ship arrived on the island.
Many white folks came,
For research and discovery.
They smelled of cigars and alcohol.
They shot the birds with their rifles.
Rima hated it.
Every hummingbird,
Or a swallowtail,
Or a squirrel,
was Rima's friend
-------------------------
We held each other tight in the woods,
While seeing the white man's camp light.
Rima asked me if she could take the squirrels and the swallowtails
When we go to the city
I said "It'll be alright,
We can make a big box.
Then we can all go together."
Rima seemed to relax and laughed
"If you don't like the city,
We can always come back to the island."
I told her all about my mother,
Who works at the factory.
About the baker's dog.
About the small river behind the tavern.
About the broken window in the apartment.
"Life is like a very long journey."
----------------------
At heart, I've always been a child with no home
I smile when I am sad
Chasing an unknown cloud
The wandering is the beginning of love
------------------------------
When she was in a good mood,
Rima, the wild girl of nature,
Would often imitate the sounds of birds.
One needed a sky filled with love,
For a bird without wings to fly.
We two were so happy,
That it frightened even us.
Sometimes, it made us feel insecure
If we didn't hold tightly to each other.
Especially, when the white man's rifle shots
Sounded across the air.

The Great Cave

"Now I really don't want to relate what happened after this.
Because it's such a sad cruel tale."
After a storm passed,
Rima wandered nearby the white man's camp,
Holding a squirrel that was hurt.
A drunken white man beckoned to Rima to come closer.
He showed her a beautiful ring
Rima approached out of curiosity.
The white man put the ring on Rima's finger.
When Rima smiled, the white man puffed out his smelly breath filled with alcohol,
And pushed Rima to the ground.
A dark sky fell over Rima.
He violated her, while she still wore the ring
The white men grinned and showed their teeth
One by one, they used poor Rima for their own pleasure.
Rima stood up,
And walked on weakly,
To the big cave of the wild birds.
And jumped into the fire that burned without end,
To purify herself.
She burned and died.
Rima!
Rima!
Rima!
You didn't have to die, Rima!
No bullying devil could have separated us.
And I saw
From a burning cave,
A bird flying out.
That was Rima reborn.
Rima, who died by purifying herself.
---------------
Bird Of Fire
You are a bird of fire,
A bird of love.
You consumed yourself with burning wings.
I, who was left behind,
Still, bite my lips filled with memories.
But I too, wish to burn.
I, too, want to become a bird of fire.
But I have no wings.
A reunion of just saying goodbye is too sad
Oh bird of fire, bird of love, flying in the sky,
Reflected in the dark mirror,
Burn me as well, Burn me.
You are a bird of fire,
A bird of love.
You consumed yourself with burning wings.
I, who cannot fly,
Wallow in my memories of the happy days we had.
I want to fly.
To become a bird of love.
But I have no wings.
Rima!
Rima!
Rima!
----------------------------
"And here, my sad romance ends.
I decided to stay on the island for a while.
So I made a cottage.
We drove out the white folks with the natives of the island.
I made friends with the squirrels and the hummingbirds.
Whenever I thought of Rima,
My heart was filled with sadness."

- A mechanical big bird

The Devil In Memories
Who is it!
Who is it that knocks on my door?
Midnight
When you open it
There is no one there
Just the wind blowing
It's all in your head.
That love affair is all over.
Who's that knocking on my door?
It's midnight.
When you open the door,
There is no one there.
Just the leaves falling.
You're dreaming!
She won't come back.
And yet, I'm afraid to fall asleep,
For I may wind up dreaming of her.
There is a devil made from memories that live here,
In this apartment,
Where I once lived with her.
I am afraid of the night
I am afraid of dreaming
I'm afraid to fall asleep.
Who's that knocking on my door!
Midnight
When you open it,
There's no one.
Just the rain falling.
Yet still, I wait for her.
The sweet devil who left me.
I long for you.
Long for you.
Long for you.
Long for you.
