    (日本語は下期。) Cover Photo by Ayuo. A musical setting of the ancient Greek play by Sophocles in Japanese. King Oedipus was commissioned by the Japanese playwright, Masakazu Yamazaki in 1994. He wanted all the chorus parts to be sung as if it were a musical, but sounding like ancient music. This album includes liner notes and all the lyrics in English and Japanese. Musicians feature Torsten Rasch, Koichi Makigami, Yoko Ueno, Kiyohiko Semba as well as Ayuo.
    This is the only work that Ayuo recorded with the German composer, Torsten Rasch. He was living in Japan at this time. He emigrated to Japan to join the Japanese rock group, Hikashu, led by Koichi Makigami. In 2002, Torsten was approached by the Dresdner Sinfoniker for a commissioned song cycle based on music and lyrics by the German industrial metal band Rammstein. In 2004, Rasch was commissioned by the ICA in London to collaborate with the Pet Shop Boys on a soundtrack for Sergei Eisenstein's silent film Battleship Potemkin and a live, screened performance took place in London's Trafalgar Square. Since then, he has been a very successful composer of orchestral works and operas.

日本語は英語の下期。King Oedipus was commissioned by the Japanese playwright, Masakazu Yamazaki in 1994. He wanted all the chorus parts to be sung as if it were a musical, but sounding like ancient music.
This is an interpretation based on the ancient play by Sophocles. It is not just a translation, so some of the lyrics do not exist in the original play. Yamazaki uses a lot of old Japanese words which do not exist in the English language. Therefore, I made an approximate translation of the lyrics, so those who have bought this album can understand.
The story is the same as that written by Sophocles.
『オイディプス王』は、1994年に日本の劇作家、山崎正和氏によって依頼された。コーラスパートをすべてミュージカルのように歌い、かつ古楽のように響かせることを希望された。
これは、ソフォクレスの古代劇に基づく解釈です。単なる翻訳ではないので、原作にはない歌詞もあります。ストーリーはソフォクレスが書いたものと同じです。
